Aurora Borealis and Appliances

The counter tops and appliances got installed today. The appliance guys got jammed up a little cuz the granite was supposed to be in yesterday. They weren't real happy hanging for a while waiting for the range top to be cut out, but after I found out that they don't duct the range hood to the provided venting, the slight guilt I was feeling disappeared quickly. The "top" guys were very professional and courteous. The two of them got a Andrew Jackson each ( big whoop I know ). Aurora Borealis is the name of this granite.

Counter Tops

It is Friday at 8:00am. The counter tops are being installed ( a day late like everything ) but they are awesome.
Appliances and plumbing could possibly be done today or tomorrow. Would be nice to have a functioning kitchen sink again. Washing dishes in a bathroom is ............       Pictures coming soon

Uppers and Downers

After 30 some years of being a flooring contractor ,you'd think I would be used to the difficulties of a remodel.

Home Depot put the wrong size window above the sink so it was sitting crooked and no adjustments could be made. I had to take down the wood framing I had done to box out the window and am now waiting for who knows how long before they replace it. On a more positive note the electricians came back Friday and hung the pendant lighting over the new island, trimmed out the recessed lights in the ceiling, wired the island for juice and added one more outlet to the right of the stove. Sears also delivered a frig. Cool!

Here you go Xan, paint and cabinets!!

We are finally rid of the burnt orange and dark green accent wall in the kitchen. The cabinets started to go in
( slowly ) . These cabinets are an exotic type wood called "sapelle". Nice cabinets but the installers had big headaches. These european type cabinets ( in design ) are not forgiving. One little thing out of place really shows up on full face cabinetry. Who knew?

We started to tear everything out. The floors, cabinets and trenched a line for electricity to the new Island.
Teresa donated some time one day to help pull out some cabinets.( Hey Thanks )

The First Step

The first thing that changed in the kitchen was the windows. We eventually ended up at Home Depot and had a new sliding door, picture window and two pane window installed. White vinyl clad is what we ended up with and Val and I decided to use this color to tie some things together.

What was

This was the way the old kitchen looked back in July. I got so busy doing the remodel that no posts have been done in over a month.
